In 1987, Tokyo marked the starting point of UNITECR, the Unified International Technical Conference of Refractories. Since then, this event has evolved exceptionally, consolidating itself as the most influential in the refractory industry on an international level.
With the promise of being an invaluable opportunity to connect with professionals from the sector all around the world, UNITECR has been the engine behind the emergence of new cutting-edge technologies, techniques, and insights.

The team at ALAFAR is pleased to announce that we will organize the 19th UNITECR Biennial Worldwide Congress on Refractories. This will be held at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort in Cancun, Mexico, from October 27th to 30th, 2025.
It is the fifth time that ALAFAR has been chosen to host this truly global event, and I am confident that Mexico will deliver! As technological advances continue at pace, there are many pressing issues facing our industry and our clients – carbon neutrality, the role of hydrogen, recycling challenges, resource preservation, and energy-saving technologies – and I’m sure that these and other key emerging topics will all be fully addressed at Cancun 2025.
We will be working hard to put together a stimulating, high-quality program worthy of the excellent reputation that UNITECR has established for itself over the past decades. We look forward to the active participation of members from all around the world, our expert voices, so to speak, and we would ask you to keep an eye on the website as plans develop.
Alongside our oral and poster sessions, of course, this will be a great time of the year for you to visit Cancun, renowned not only for its Caribbean vistas, high-level hospitality, and a wide variety of activities but also for the historic Mayan ruins. Our chosen venue offers numerous upscale amenities, on-site dining with international cuisine, and premier access to alluring destinations. We will be doing absolutely everything we can in the next two years to put together an exciting, informative, inclusive, and enjoyable program for you all.
